This 168-page book is filled with black and white pen-and-ink illustrations begging to be colored and 46 color photographs. It is about one family’s life at “the Dumpling,” the name they call their little house on a hill in Northeast Los Angeles.
In March of 2020 Trisha Cole started writing a newsletter that she sent out via snail mail. Life at the Dumpling, the book is based on the first 20 newsletters that were published from March 2020-March 2023.
The book is many things: a remembrance of an historic time in our collective recent history; a cookbook; and a manual of how to’s on topics ranging from car camping to throwing a party. It is filled with recipes, poems, games, inspirational quotes, travel tips, and more.
